3 Great Activities For Children When You are in Southampton

I lived in Southampton since I had my kids and I love it here.  It is a great mixture of old and the new but most of all it is a great place to raise kids.  There is an assortment of places you can take your kids during weekends and holidays.  If you are not from Southampton, it is also a nice getaway.  There are a lot of things that you can do and if you have kids, they will surely love it here.

Here are some of the things you can do in Southampton.

  1. Visit Sea City Museum

titanic Sea City Museum is an interesting place to see.  It tells a lot about Southampton and its people.  Usually kids are amazed of the idea about the sea and this museum has full of that.  Imagine how they would react to a fascinating interactive replica of the Titanic!  They will get to see how the life of the Titanic crew unfolds in a day.  The replica is very detailed and has all the facts taken into consideration.  But this is nothing to worry because I assure you, it is not upsetting.

The entry to the World exhibit known as the Gateway showcases historical works of art to give account of the tales of the people who came and left from Southampton port for the last two centuries.  The artifacts show the earliest settlers to the people who are now living today.

  1. Solent Sky Museum

 From the sea experience at the Sea City Museum, bring your kids to the Solent Sky Museum.  I am pretty sure your kids will love this too.  My little ones did.   Here, they will fall in love with the aviation history of Hampshire, Southampton as well as Solent.  All of these spectacular things and more, you can be certain that your kids will have a grand time.

  1. The Outdoor Sports Centre

Outdoor activities are almost always appreciated by kids.  The Outdoor Sports Centre is the place to be.  It offers endless fun and excitement.  Your kids can play cricket, hockey and football since they have a multi-purpose playing field for these games.  If you want to introduce your kid to playing tennis or rugby, you can do that at the centre too.  They also have BMX track and even an out of this world golf course!  Their outdoor activities are diverse that surely kids will be delighted.

It’s a place where you can spend the whole day doing interesting things.  You will not see your child get bored even for a second.

Bonding time with children is very important.  You get to connect with them more and most of all create great childhood memories.  Getting them out of the house and bringing them to these kinds of places is educational.  It also builds personality.  They will learn to how to behave and they will also ultimately develop their social skills and confidence.

Spend quality time with your kids.  Take them out on a weekend.  It would be refreshing, I tell you.

 

3 Amazing Go-To Dinner Recipes Your Kids Will Love

As a mother it is a primary concern that I am able to prepare healthy foods for my children.  Like most of you mothers out there, you realize that it is one of the many challenges you will encounter being a mom.  I consider motherhood as a journey and along the way I discovered that creativity plays a very big role when handling children and food preparation is no exception.

When you are a working mum, the tendency is resort to fast food because of the convenience it offers.  Time is always scarce for you and I feel you.  There are a lot of things to do and accomplish and buying food can indeed provide you a solution.  Of course, you already know about this.  However, most of the time or perhaps often times we tend to forget this because we are always on the run.

Here are my three go-to dinner recipes for kids you might want to consider.

Yummy Fish Sticks

You will need the following ingredients:

½ cup bread crumbs, dry

½ tsp salt

½ tsp paprika

½ tsp seasoning, preferably lemon-pepper

½ cup flour, all-purpose

1   large egg

¾ lbs cod fillets, cut into strips about 1-inch

Cooking spray, butter-flavored is the best

Here’s how you do it:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°.
  2. In a shallow container, combine dry bread crumbs and all your seasonings. Put the flour and beaten egg in separate containers. Dip the fish fillets in the flour for coating. Dip it in egg, and then in the crumb mixture.
  3. Coat your baking sheet with cooking spray. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the fillets turns golden brown.

Crispy Fried Chicken

You will need the following ingredients:

1 whole chicken, about 4 lbs, cut into desired sizes

1 cup buttermilk

2 cups flour

1 tsp paprika

Salt

Pepper

2 quarts of cooking oil

 Here’s how you do it:

  1. Prepare the chicken cuts. In a container prepare coating by mixing flour, salt, pepper and paprika to taste.
  2. Put the buttermilk in a bowl. Dip chicken into the bowl.  Do this several times.  Put the chicken in the plastic bag with coating mixture.  Shake the bag until the chicken cuts are all coated.  Put the coated chicken cuts on a tray and cover it with a waxed paper or any substitute.  Leave it until the flour has turned paste-like.
  3. Use a large skillet and fill it with at least 1/2 full cooking oil. Once the oil is very hot, put the coated chicken cuts into the skillet. Wait until the chicken turns brown.
  4. Prepare paper towels to drain your yummy fried chicken.

Mac and Cheese

You will need the following ingredients:

2 cups elbow noodles

1 ¾ cups milk, can be low-fat, your choice

3 tbsp all-purpose flour

1 tsp salt

1/4 tsp ground white pepper

½ tsp garlic powder

1 tsp Dijon mustard

¼ cup parmesan cheese, shredded

¾ cup cheddar cheese, shredded

Here’s how you do it:

  1. Cook the elbow noodles for about 4 minutes or until it becomes  tender.
  2. In another pot, pour 1 1/2 cups milk. Bring it to simmer on a medium-high heat. In another container pour the ¼ cup milk, garlic powder, flour, pepper, and salt. Mix it until smooth. Add this to your simmering milk.  Continue to simmer while constantly stirring it.  Wait until the mixture has thickened. Take the pot from the heat.  Combine Parmesan, Cheddar and mustard.  Whisk it until it melts.
  1. Use a strainer so you can drain the noodles and broccoli. Make sure that it is properly drained before adding the cheese sauce. Put it back to your burner to heat on medium-low heat, 1 minute will be enough.
